Ferenc Hillinger and Bruno Taut: Republican Maiden Institute
Located in the center of Izmir, along Vasıf Çınar Street—which runs from the site of the former International Fair (now known as Kültürpark) toward the seaside—stands the building of the Republican Maiden Technical and Vocational High School (Konak Cumhuriyet N.S. İşören Kız Teknik ve Meslek Lisesi), named after the Izmit Konak district. The building was constructed in 1938 based on designs by the German architect Bruno Taut and the Hungarian architect Ferenc Hillinger.
The building is situated in a shady, tree-lined garden and consists of a composition of distinct blocks. Characteristic of Taut and Hillinger’s work, economy and functional spatial planning were defining features of the design.
